About Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a holistic system of natural health care. In treating the whole person - physical, mental and emotional, homeopathy assists in stimulating your bodies natural ability to heal itself, allowing you to live healthier and happier.
Homeopathic medicine is a safe, gentle and effective form of medicine for people of all ages; In pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood the elderly and even animals. Non-invasive and gentle on its own or complementary with your current medical care. Furthermore homeopathic medicine has minimal impact on global ecology, poses no risk to the environment and is inexpensive.
Homeopathy's History & How Homeopathy Differs from Conventional Medicine
Classical Homeopathy was established in 1796 by a German Physician & Chemist Samuel Hahnemann. He sought ways to bring about a gentle non-invasive cure for his patients.
Homeopathy is derived from the Greek word 'homoios', meaning like or similar and 'pathos' meaning suffering. The basic principle of Homeopathy is based on the natural Law of Similars, commonly referred to as 'like cures like".
In conventional medicine we are taught to think that disease is characterized by certain symptoms and that the cure is to suppress the symptoms. Homeopathy, on the other hand, sees symptoms as the body working to overcome an unhealthy condition. Cure, in homeopathic terms, is to restore the body to homeostasis (a restoration of the normal internal stability in the body).
Homeopathic medicines (typically plant, animal or minerals) are made in homeopathic pharmacies which follow prescribed procedures according the the Homeopathic Pharmacopea. In general the remedy is diluted and succussed rendering it non toxic and effective energetic medicine. Provings (or tests) of the medicine (or remedy) are preformed on people.
A classic example of this is the common onion (Alium cepa). Many of us have experienced watery eyes, stinging, a clear running, burning nose while peeling an onion. A homeopathic preparation of Allium Cepa (onion) might then be used to treat patients with hay fever if they too have stinging, watery eyes and a runny, burning nose.
When Should You See A Professional Homeopath?
Most acute and chronic ailments are treatable with homeopathy. Homeopathic treatment can be a simple and cost effective way to boost your immune systems. Simple first-aid and acute conditions can be treated effectively yourself by attending community workshops and good homeopathic self help books. Support from your families professional homeopath with a brief Acute Care Call may also prove helpful. Chronic conditions (such as anxiety, hormonal imbalances, irritable bowl, joint pain etc) should be treated by an experienced homeopath.
A homeopath considers the body, mind and emotional aspects of each individual person when making a treatment assessment. The homeopath needs to be an objective observer trained to integrate all the physical, emotional and mental symptoms and translate them into the correct homeopathic remedy in order to start the healing process. This is done with a health history intake and followed by a complete and thorough initial consultation. Once the treatment plan is in place, consistent follow-ups with the homeopath will help manage your case and determine prescription and or dosage changes to support the body’s self-healing capacity.
What Sort of Ailments Can Homeopathy Treat?
Homeopathy can treat most diseases and conditions, physical and/or mental-emotional, chronic and acute. This is because homeopathy is a holistic medicine that does not treat symptoms; it treats the person who is sick. By understanding a person’s disordered state of health, a remedy can be prescribed to stimulate your body’s healing power bringing you back in balance.
Homeopathic remedies can produce dramatic improvements in acute conditions (such as physical injuries and infections) by significantly reducing the intensity of symptoms and recovery time. In chronic conditions homeopathic treatment can be very useful. Chronic ailments are frequently accompanied by a general deterioration of health. In advance stages of pathology where cure may not be possible homeopathy can alleviate or reduce sever symptoms, including pain, vomiting, anxiety, or fear.

How does Homeopathy differ from Naturopathy?
A Homeopath focuses their years of study on this one medical system, whereas naturopathic studies look at a selection of natural methods and homeopathy is part of that selection. Homeopathic remedies are different from herbal remedies since they have been diluted to a micro-dose of their original substance and sucussed.
Homeopathy is a regulated health profession in Ontario.
